UTG Unabhängige Tanklogistik, headquartered in Bremerhaven, will become a 100% subsidiary of DS Energie-Holding UG. The approval by the Federal Cartel Office is still pending, with completion planned for December 2021.

Weser-Petrol Managing Director Ian Petri will lead the company’s operations in the future.

UTG is a family-owned company with over 90 employees, primarily operating in the tank farm sector. With locations in Bremerhaven, Blexen, Essen, and two tank farms in Kiel, UTG forms a strategically valuable addition to our portfolio.

A new business area for DS will be the processing of waste oils from ships, which is also operated by UTG. We look forward to getting to know and supporting this area.

In our discussions with UTG, it quickly became clear that our values align very well, and the shareholder families would be pleased to see their employees with DS. With a clear common goal in mind, this major project was successfully implemented by the sellers and us. In very close collaboration between the DS Holding and the energy sector with market and market follow-up, all challenges were mastered, so that nothing stood in the way of the signing on October 26.

The project team of Steffen Koplin, Dr. Hauke Laackmann, and Christian Furthmann was actively supported by the individual departments. During the inspection of the tank farms, Patrick Fürst, Ingo Wenzel, and Jan Connemann contributed their expertise.

Externally, we were advised on financials by Ebner Stolz and on tax and legal matters by Friedrich Graf von Westphalen & Partner for this project.

With the acquisition of UTG, we are laying another foundation for shaping our energy business sector. We firmly believe that fossil fuels will accompany our path for many years to come, but we do not lose sight of future products. With its coastal locations, UTG stands exactly for this strategy: While fossil fuels may still be the main product in the tank farms today, the locations offer us the opportunity to import and store other liquid fuels in the future. Because Germany will certainly need to import energy in the future as well.

A big thank you to everyone who made this project possible.
