A special moment for our Bremen headquarters– and for the entire DS Group: Memeler Straße has officially been renamed Diersch‑und‑Schröder‑Straße.
While this may appear a purely formal change at first glance, it carries far greater significance for us. The new street name pays visible tribute to the history of our family‑owned company, generations of entrepreneurial courage, and to our deep roots in the Hanseatic city of Bremen.
From now on, the street will bear the name of our corporate group, serving as a daily reminder of the people who have built, shaped, and continuously developed Diersch & Schröder.
From the Neustadt to the Holzhafen: the DS Group’s roots in Bremen
The DS Groups origins date back to 1920. In Bremen’s Neustadt district, 18‑year‑old Otto Diersch founded a small mineral oil business, supplying shipping and industry by handcart. From these humble beginnings, a diversified corporate group has gradually emerged, operating internationally in the fields of energy, chemicals, and young business ventures.
Key milestones in this development:
Foundation of the mineral oil company Otto Diersch in Bremen’s Neustadt district
Renaming to Diersch & Schröder following the admission of merchant Johann Conrad Schröder as a partner
Opening of the first service station on Bachstraße (Neustadt)
Construction of the company’s own tank vessels (bunker boats)
Launch of the Chemicals business division
Relocation to the current site at the Holzhafen
Acquisition and expansion of the site to include the Freter Building on Cuxhavener Straße
Renaming of Memeler Straße to Diersch‑und‑Schröder‑Straße
The Holzhafen site has been at the heart of the corporate group for over six decades, a place where the past, present and future of Diersch & Schröder converge.
