On March 22, 2024, as part of the initiative “Planting Trees for Lower Saxony,” we created a DS Forest in Wardenburg (district of Oldenburg). In total, we sponsored 1,800 climate-resistant trees.
Under the leadership of the Eriksen Foundation and with the support of 24 dedicated employees from various DS companies, the planting project was successfully implemented. Equipped with rubber boots and spades, we worked together and planted the young trees in just three hours. Afterwards, we used the remaining time to sow flower seeds and further promote biodiversity on the emerging green space.
Our vision was to plant a new tree for each employee. Together, these trees – analogous to our dedicated team – form a strong and harmonious community, our DS Forest. This analogy represents the continuous development of our employees at the DS Group. As a family business, we strongly identify with values such as progress, sustainability, and growth.
Support from the Eriksen Foundation
The action was accompanied by the Eriksen Foundation, which provided the necessary land in Wardenburg and additionally sponsored 500 trees. “Selected were trees that cope particularly well with the changing climate, including red oak, sweet chestnut, walnut, sycamore maple, linden, pedunculate oak, beech, and bird cherry,” said Renate Eriksen, Chairwoman of the Marius Eriksen Foundation.
Trees as Natural Climate Protectors
Trees play an important role in the fight against climate change. They are natural climate protectors that produce oxygen through photosynthesis. A single tree can provide oxygen for about ten people each year[1]. Furthermore, forests offer a habitat for a variety of plants and animals and contribute to improving air quality and the microclimate.
Together for a more Sustainable Future
With the planting of the DS Forest, we at the DS Group want to do something for our employees and at the same time make a contribution to environmental protection, preserving biodiversity, and promoting sustainable development in the region.
