How is a modern automated fuel station built? What steps are required before trucks and fleets can refuel there around the clock? The construction of the new fuel station in Sandersdorf-Brehna by DS card + drive provides a practical insight into these processes. Construction work on the site in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany, began in June 2025. Thanks to the coordinated efforts of the contractors involved and efficient planning, the station opened in October 2025.
The location was selected deliberately. The site, close to the A9 motorway, had been identified as suitable several years earlier and was subsequently purchased. Location matters: automated fuel stations like this one primarily serve commercial users for whom straightforward access is essential.
Planning, construction and technology – the key steps
Building a fuel station follows a structured sequence that extends well beyond what is visible above ground. Many critical stages take place below the surface and are no longer apparent once the station is in operation.

Technology and capacities
The fuel station in Sandersdorf-Brehna has four lanes and offers diesel, AdBlue and HVO100 (up to 90% CO2-neutral fuel made from hydrotreated vegetable oil). The location integrates into the tankpool24 network and provides infrastructure tailored to commercial fleet operations.
