Additiv-Chemie Luers on the obligations that come with a quality promise

Made in Germany thrives on delivering genuine quality in the end

Johann von Cossel, General Representative and former Managing Director of ACL, on the obligations that come with a quality promise – and on the question of how much companies must do to live up to this standard.

Made in Germany has two sides, depending on the perspective from which you look at it. For customers, it has been a seal of quality for decades, usually rewarded with an advance of trust. For us as manufacturers of chemical products in the DS Group, it is the aspiration to produce products of the highest possible quality so that we continue to receive this advance of trust. That’s why the quality standard Made in Germany has many facets for us. In this article, we would like to look a little closer at the most important ones.

Made in Germany Means: Getting to Know the World of Customers

We have customers in many countries around the world. Made in Germany has a fundamentally positive meaning there, as our customers appreciate the quality – whether in Thailand, Taiwan, or Brazil. But when we visit customers, they also expect something from us.

Made in Germany is definitely a quality promise in our industry. But companies have to back it up with their product time and time again. They have to deliver the performance, so to speak.

Companies must also maintain quality consistently. Many customers are demanding and expect something from Made in Germany. We have found that close exchange with our customers is important to get to know their requirements and wishes precisely. These are often many hours that we spend talking to each other, discussing and working out solutions together – or being able to make a well-founded recommendation.

Additiv-Chemie Luers GmbH

Additiv-Chemie Luers (ACL) is an independent manufacturer of additives for metalworking fluids, corrosion protection, industrial lubricants, and cleaners in the DS Group. With over 50 years of experience, comprehensive know-how, and solutions tailored to customer needs, ACL is one of the leading producers in Europe.

Made in Germany Means: Innovation and Reliability

Our company is also an innovation driver, as is typical for many German companies. We enjoy developing things further and making them better. Currently, for example, we are working on the water hardness independence of various products.
While the quality seal is the door opener, only those who deliver quality in the long term survive in the market – even with changing requirements. In Germany, we are accustomed to constant progress in products and manufacturing processes. And customers can be sure: Our products are always formulated according to the latest legal requirements.

Made in Germany Means: Increasingly Environmentally Friendly Products

In addition to optimal application properties, environmental compatibility is also an important criterion, for example in the selection of raw materials. This is one of the trademarks of Made in Germany.

We are currently developing biocide-free cooling lubricants that have at least as good properties as the common biocide-containing products. Because in the DS Group, we value sustainable development.

There is also an international trend towards environmentally friendly products, especially in Northern Europe. The more customers feel price pressure, the more they need to be convinced of the advantages of environmentally friendly products and manufacturing processes. This is also a question of mentality and the respective legal regulations in the country.

Made in Germany Means: Customized Products at an Attractive Price

We have long-standing, good, and trusting business relationships with our customers. We often have known the companies for many years and know what they are working on – and what they need for it. We value direct contact with our customers and regularly have personal conversations on site.

In exchange with customers, we quickly develop a sense of what the company is currently doing and can offer the appropriate products. We advise customers and offer alternatives. Our products sometimes require explanation, and customers desire detailed individual consultation on specific chemical contents. This is usually handled by one of our employees who can support customers with their special expertise. We always keep costs in mind, also to remain internationally competitive.

Made in Germany Means: Supplying the Whole World as a Family Business

ACL is a subsidiary of the DS Group. The DS Group strategically develops its business areas. As a family business, we are independent of external investors. We think in generations rather than quarters. We offer our subsidiaries the greatest possible independence and support their ventures in the long term. We think locally and operate internationally. Continuity in customer relationships, reliability as an employer, and careful further development of our business fields are among the classic strengths we are proud of as a family business.

We also develop customized solutions. The industry knows this, and we have a reputation for making things possible.

Made in Germany Means: Openness and Honesty

Made in Germany thrives on delivering what we promise. As Germans, we are known abroad for saying what we think. This may be unfamiliar to some and may seem less charming – but it has the great advantage that customers always know where they stand and receive clear information. And what we promise, we keep. With our products, you can also be sure: All ingredients contained in a product are declared.
